The “first ropeless multiple cabin lift system in the world” was recently presented by ThyssenKrupp. Linear motors on the elevator cars allow “MULTI” the ride through the building. Not only vertically, as in conventional elevators, but also horizontally.
Similar as in a paternoster several elevator cabins per shaft can be operated in a recirculating system. As a result, the transport capacity is increased by up to 50% per shaft and the space requirement of the elevator in a building can be reduced by the same amount.
